As Alpe D'Huez was close to our route from Geneva to Lyon we had to make a wee detour to give it a go.
The weather was perfect today, it was pretty cold when we got up but by the time we had breakfast in town and got ourselves sorted out the sun was coming over the hills and was warming us up.
Almost as soon as we left the town we were straight into the climb at about 12% which never dropped much below 9% for the next 9 miles to the top. The traffic was reasonable all the way up with loads of bikes, a few trucks and a Porsche owners club giving it the welly in the opposite direction. The views down to Bourg were spectacular.

We eventually arrived at what everyone seemed to consider was the top where the had their photos taken, had beers, and went back don the way they came up.
We stopped, had our photo taken, had a sandwich then carried on almost another mile to the top of the Tour de France route. We then took the alternative descent via the Pas de la Confession which was on a beautiful deserted road with fantastic views down to the Romanche Valley.
Great trip so far, thanks for keeping us posted.
