We started off this morning with a wander round Vizille which was a nice enough town but with a fairly run down look about it with lots of closed and empty shops. That was until you went through the door in the wall at the end of the Main Street and went into the immaculately kept grounds of the Chateau.

The Chateau housed a museum about the French Revolution which had some fantastic paintings and was quite interesting even though none of the information was in English.
We then navigated our way along some forest tracks before joining the main road up through the Romanche Valley

I hadn't been looking forward to the next section of today's route as much of it was on the main road, some of which was dual carriageway, but the marked off cycle lane at the side of the road was wide enough to feel safe and the scenery just got better and better as we climbed up the narrow valley.
We stopped off at Riouperoux for a couple of cheeseburgers to keep us going for the rest of the climb.
Although much of today's route was on the main road we also found lots of wee detours on old roads, tracks and eventually a beautiful new tarmac cycle path which took us right into Bourg D'Oisans which is a lovely wee town totally surrounded by mountains.
